Plant Your Future: Nursery Sales & Landscape Design Associate Opportunity
Join our vibrant retail garden center team as a Nursery Sales Specialist & Designer, where your primary focus will be driving sales in the nursery department by providing expert guidance on healthy, beautiful plants. Additionally, you'll receive company-led leads to visit customers, assess their outdoor needs, and transform those opportunities into stunning, customized landscape designs. Use your passion for plants and landscape design to recommend solutions, upsell products, and foster lasting customer relationships that lead to successful sales.

This is a full-time role working at Colonial Gardens in Blue Springs, Missouri.
Hourly Range: $18.00-$20.00 + variable compensation based on landscape design sales
Key Responsibilities
Design Sales: Actively engage with customers to develop personalized landscape designs, recommend appropriate plants and materials, and work consistently towards achieving sales goals by leveraging design projects, upselling, cross-selling, and building strong customer relationships.
Nursery Sales: Deliver outstanding customer service by actively engaging shoppers, recommending high-quality plants and gardening products, and highlighting features and benefits to encourage purchases. Use your expertise to upsell and cross-sell, creating a positive shopping experience that drives increased sales and customer satisfaction.
Product Knowledge?: Proactively expand and deepen your understanding of plants, gardening products, and landscaping solutions to confidently recommend items that meet customer needs. Use your expertise to promote and upsell products, ultimately increasing sales and enhancing the customer’s purchasing experience.
Plant Quality?: Assist in maintaining the health and vitality of all plants through regular watering, pruning, and inspections for pests or diseases. Ensure plants are properly cared for, healthy, well-maintained, and attractively presented to support high quality standards and a positive customer experience.
Work Safely?: Adhere to safety protocols and best practices to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment.
Essential Job Duties
Design Sales:
Assist customers in designing landscape plans by asking relevant questions, suggesting appropriate plants and materials, and utilizing leads provided by management
Proactively contact prospects through phone calls and customer visits to generate new landscape design projects
Visit customers at their locations when necessary to understand their specific landscape needs and gather detailed information for design purposes
Use DynaScape to create customized landscape designs that align with customer preferences and site conditions
Present landscape proposals to customers clearly and confidently, explaining design features, plant selections, and project scope
Follow up with customers on proposals to answer questions, gather feedback, and work toward closing sales
Nursery Department:
Greet customers promptly and courteously, actively listening to their needs to provide tailored recommendations and support sales growth
Help customers select healthy, vibrant plants and gardening products by inspecting stock and providing knowledgeable advice, ensuring a positive shopping experience
Accurately process sales transactions, including upselling and cross-selling, while ensuring proper documentation and customer satisfaction
Maintain the health and appearance of all nursery stock by regularly watering, pruning, and inspecting plants for pests or diseases
Present plants and products attractively and accurately, ensuring proper labeling and organization for easy customer access
Adhere to all safety protocols, including proper lifting techniques, equipment use, and hazard identification, to maintain a safe work environment
Collaborate with team members and management to meet sales goals, improve customer service, and maintain high standards of quality in the nursery department
Continuously update and enhance your knowledge of plants, gardening supplies, and landscaping solutions through training, research, and on-the-job learning
Keep the nursery area clean, organized, and free of hazards, adhering to store policies and safety standards
Assist in creating signage and promotional displays to highlight products, special offers, and seasonal events, enhancing customer engagement and sales
Other Duties And Responsibilities
Cross train and work in other departments as needed
Participate in store events, promotional activities, and community outreach efforts to enhance customer engagement and support sales initiatives
Promote and foster company’s core values

Minimum Qualifications
Required: Prior experience in landscape design; regenerative landscape design experience preferred
Required: Proficiency in using design software such as DynaScape or similar design programs
Required: Must have availability to work on weekends
Required: Strong knowledge of plants, gardening products, and landscaping solutions or a willingness to learn and expand expertise
Required: Valid driver’s license
Required: Class E Driver's License (or ability to obtain CLASS E)
Required: Demonstrated knowledge of Midwest/native plant species and ecological planting practices
Required: Expertise in natural drainage solutions and hardscape drainage systems
Preferred: Additional certifications in landscape architecture, horticulture, or related specialties; experience in customer service or retail environment
Preferred: Associate degree or higher in landscape design, horticulture, or a related field
