Summary

Head Teacher - After School Program

Leila Day is in search of a creative, organized, nature/outdoor based, art fluent, storyteller educator for our After School Program. Head teachers are responsible responsible for cultivating an environment of creativity, curiosity, exploration, and joy while supporting the emergent ideas of young children and helping them grow and learn. The head teacher will also understand the unique challenges and opportuntiies of running an afterschool program that sits squarely between the rigors of formal schooling the informality of home life. The Leila Day After School Program supports families with children in grades K-3. Salary is dependent upon experience and education.

Duties

Lead teachers will help children problem-solve through play; express themselves, and learn about the world through language, print, art, and multiple sign systems; nurture a joyful appreciation for one?s bodily self and feel comfortable in one's skin: support ethical values and emotional intelligence; develop multural-cultural literacies and support each child's sense of their own cultural dignity; and foster authentic connections with the natural world. Lead teachers in collaboration with their team will develop curriculum, activities, projects, and learning experiences that engage all students. Lead teachers will be expected to manage the whole class, organize small groups of children, and support each individual in their growth and learning. The lead teacher will be expected to take children on outdoor adventures at least three times a week, lead and collaborate with their team, maintain an orderly, clean classroom, use the environment as another ?teacher,? communicate with parents, complete necessary paperwork, and collaborate with the administration and other staff.

Requirements

Experience in outdoor education with children

Physical ability to keep up with ( and ahead of) a rambunctious group of 5-9 year olds,

Associate's degree or comparable eductional experiences

Willingness and ability to embrace the learning curve of a top notch, outdoor, arts based, afterschool program

Responsible, dedicated employee who can give their all to this part time program ( 17 and a half hours a week)

Hours are 2:15-5:45, with additional subbing hours during the school day, if interested.
