We're seeking a talented and detail-oriented Cost Accountant to join our team in Marquette, MI. In this role, you will be responsible for analyzing production costs in a highly regulated medical manufacturing environment, ensuring profitability, supporting strategic decision-making, and maintaining compliance with healthcare manufacturing standards. Key Responsibilities:
- Perform monthly financial close activities, including inventory valuation, Excess & Obsolete reserve, standard cost variance analysis, operations productivity, account reconciliations, and additional reporting.
- Prepare necessary reports and summaries for financial reporting.
- Record standard adjusting journal entries related to operational cost accounting.
- Review PPV reports, research purchases, and ensure accurate PPV reporting.
- Establish labor and overhead rates.
- Support external audits and tax preparation functions.
- Conduct WIP audits and contribute cost analysis to the annual budgeting process.
- Prepare accurate cost estimates for new and existing products upon request.
- Partner with operational management to improve controls, accuracy, and quality of manufacturing costs, addressing any significant variances.
- Manage fixed asset acquisitions, disposals, transfers, and other asset adjustments in the accounting system, ensuring timely and accurate tracking.
- Collaborate with finance staff to maintain general ledger accuracy and integrity.
- Analyze accounting records to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformity to standards.
- Support month-end closeout activities, including journal entries, variance and inventory analysis, and financial statement preparation.
- Collaborate with various functional departments to develop and maintain the product costing system.
What We're Looking For:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- At least 3 years of cost accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing or healthcare/medical device environment.
- Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems (i.e., SAP).
- Advanced Excel skills for data analysis and reporting.
- Strong understanding of cost accounting principles, standard costing, and variance analysis.
- Ability to analyze complex data, draw meaningful insights, and effectively communicate findings to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
- Professional communication skills and the ability to influence decisions and facilitate change management.
